The UN Liaison Office in Skopje provides UNMIK with analysis and forecasts of the main political, economic and security trends in FYR Macedonia and in the region, including analysis on the host country’s foreign policy, particularly its policy towards Serbia and Kosovo as well as other neighbors.

UNLO addresses issues affecting UNMIK and assists the SRSG by providing contacts with FYR Macedonia’s authorities, and by arranging political and protocol aspects of the visits of the SRSG and other high-ranking officials from UNMIK Prishtinë/Priština and NY HQ. UNLO also serves as liaison and interface with ethnic Macedonian and ethnic Albanian political leaders and other segments of Macedonian society.

UNLO coordinates with other UN agencies and with international organizations, diplomatic corps, and military and security communities present in FYR Macedonia, as it relates to the issues affecting UNMIK’s mandate. UNLO also participates in FYR Macedonia’s UN Country Team, by contributing to joint reports with analyses on the political dynamics of the region as viewed from Skopje.
