‘Necessary protection’ delivered to Kosovo's courts and correctional facilities

As part of our ongoing COVID-19 response activities, UNMIK's Justice Section has delivered hygiene and personal protective equipment to correctional facilities and courts across Kosovo.

Secretariat of Judiciary Council of Kosovo director Shkelzen Maliqi said the amount donated would be enough to protect the courts’ more than 2000 staff members.

“It is necessary that everyone be protected against this pandemic. It is very much welcomed.”

Kosovo Correctional Services director of operations Ilir Kelmendi received the donations at Lipjan/Lipljan Prison for onward distribution across Kosovo. The donation means family visits, which had been suspended for three months during the lockdown, can now resume!

During the donations, Justice Section chief Andrea Lako conveyed the message from Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK Zahir Tanin that during this difficult time UNMIK stands with the people of Kosovo.

The equipment includes:
• 240 boxes of gloves
• 1515 litres of disinfectant
• 8328 litres of soap
