Supporting access to justice: UNMIK donates IT equipment to Court of Appeals Division in North Mitrovica

On 27 November, UNMIK donated IT and technical equipment including laptops, desktop computers and printers to the Court of Appeals Division in North Mitrovica.

The donation took place as part of the Mission’s ongoing programmatic activity to improve the performance of the judiciary and access to justice in Kosovo, including support to the integrated judicial institutions in northern Kosovo.

UNMIK’s implementing partner, the Advocacy Center for Democratic Culture (ACDC) delivered the equipment to the Chief Judge at the Appellate Court Division in North Mitrovica, Mr. Milan Bigović, in the presence of the Head of the UNMIK Rule of Law Office, Mr. Antero Lopes.

Judge Bigović thanked UNMIK for its continuous support in improving work conditions for judges and supporting the staff at the Court of Appeals Division.

“UNMIK has been the most supportive organisation to our division and other justice institutions in northern Kosovo,” Bigović said.

Judge Bigović added that they were particularly grateful to UNMIK-supported programmatic activity for assigning a young Legal Associate to the Division, who provides significant support to judges in clearing case backlogs.

Mr. Lopes thanked the Chief Judge for his professional cooperation with UNMIK and stated that the Mission would continue to support the rule of law and justice institutions in Kosovo, including through trust-building initiatives.
