On 30 March, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Mr Zahir Tanin, met with the Mayor of Pristina Municipality, Mr Shpend Ahmeti, Deputy Mayor Dardan Sejdiu, and senior municipal staff.  The SRSG complimented the Mayor for his strong track record leading one of Kosovo’s largest and most complex public administrations.  In particular, he highlighted the Mayor’s efforts increasing transparency, bolstering health and education programmes, and supporting inter-community relations.  The two also exchanged views on the political situation in Kosovo.

Mayor Ahmeti and his staff expressed appreciation for the SRSG’s leadership and with the long-standing and mutually-beneficial relationship with the United Nations.  Mayor Ahmeti opined that his municipality could benefit in a variety of ways, including on inter-community relations, from further coordination with the United Nations.  The SRSG and the Mayor agreed to remain in contact in regards to future cooperation.
