PRISTINA---The Interim Administrative Council today discussed the issue of funds collected from the people of Kosovo for the benefit of Kosovo and its people, and particularly the ‘Fund of the Republic of Kosovo’.
SRSG Dr. Bernard Kouchner said that IAC is strongly of the opinion that any such funds should be made available immediately to the Kosovo Consolidated Budget.
IAC also discussed and agreed to the draft Press Code of Practice for Kosovo. The temporary code, based on existing European standards of journalistic practice, is intended to become the foundation of a system of self-regulation for the printed media in Kosovo. It shall apply to all reporters, editors, publishers, distributors, owners and those with ultimate and final editorial control of any and all publications published or distributed within Kosovo.
SRSG Kouchner today expressed concern at yesterday’s tragic incident in which two Kosovo Serb men were killed in a mine attack and another injured near the village of Lepina, southwest of Pristina. He said this was the second incident where Kosovo Serbs have been killed by mines in this area. The first incident occurred on 2 June outside the village of Preoce, in which two Kosovo Serbs were killed and three others injured.
He expressed his happiness at the fact that both the LDK President Ibrahim Rugova and the PDK chairman, Hashim Thaci, had visited the scene of the incident and condemned the crime.
As decided last week, IAC continued its discussion on the electoral system for the upcoming elections.
SRSG Kouchner informed the members about the visit of the ICTY chief prosecutor, Carla del Ponte, to Kosovo on 21 June and her meeting scheduled with IAC and the Kosovo Transitional Council.
