UNMIK/PR/91
PRISTINA – Bernard Kouchner, Special Representative of the Secretary-General, has signed a regulation prohibiting the establishment and operation of casinos in Kosovo.
The regulation, which went into force 16 November, will allow enforcement authorities to close casinos and to seize assets and moveable property involved in illegal gambling.
Under the regulation, “casino-type gambling” refers to any game or activity involving chance, in which money or other items of value are transferred based on the outcome of the game or activity.
Such gambling includes, but is not limited to, roulette, craps, poker, slot machines, blackjack, keno and electronic or video machines offering such games.
Public prosecutors are authorized to seek an order from the appropriate District Court to shut down casinos operating illegally and seize their assets.
