PRISTINA---On 28 March 2001, the Special Representative of the Secretary General issued Administrative Direction 2001/02 implementing UNMIK Regulation No. 1999/22 on the Registration and Operation of Nongovernmental Organizations in Kosovo. This Administrative Direction clarifies and amends Administrative Direction No. 2000/10 of 9 May 2000.
The NGOs registered and operating in Kosovo should be aware that the new Administrative Direction extends the 31 March 2001 deadline for filing annual reports for the year 2000 for NGOs with Public Benefit Status. The new reporting deadline is 30 April 2001.
All NGOs with Public Benefit Status must submit an annual report for the year 2000 by the new deadline. Those NGOs who fail to submit an annual report on time risk having their Public Benefit Status suspended. Failing to submit an annual report 30 days after having been notified of a suspension will result in
the revocation of the Public Benefit Status.
The annual reports must be sent to the NGO Liaison and Registration Unit, located at the Urata building in Dardania, across the street from the former Fazita factory. The annual report forms are available at the same location, at UNMIK NGO liaison officers at UNMIK regional offices and the OSCE NGO Resource Centers.
The NGOs should be aware that the deadline extension is valid only for this year.
UNMIK is currently considering additional steps that will amend the audit requirement for local and international NGOs. The NGO Liaison and Registration Unit will issue press releases regarding any changes in audit requirement and all other matters regarding NGO registration and reporting policy.
