UNMIK/PR/318
PRISTINA—The Kosovo Transitional Council today unanimously issued the following statement:
“The Kosovo Transitional Council is outraged at reports that two Kosovo Albanian prisoners died in prisons in Serbia over the last month.
“Adem Cali Sallahu, born 1962, was arrested in Kosovo on 5 May 1999 and detained in Pozarevac prison where he is reported to have died on 21 June 2000. The cause of death is at this stage unknown, however, the KTC is concerned that he did not receive adequate medical care in the Serbian prison. He was the father of two children and during the entire time that Mr. Sallahu was in prison his family was unable to visit him.
“Shkelzim Halit Zllanoga, born 1963, was arrested on 15 August 1998 and transferred to the Nis prison. He died on 8 August 2000. The circumstances surrounding his death are also unclear. Mr. Zllanoga was the father of four children.
“The KTC is alarmed at reports of worsening detention condition for Kosovo prisoners held in Serbia. The KTC repeats its demand that all persons from Kosovo held in prisons in Serbia be immediately handed over to the UNMIK authorities.”
