Regulation for Municipal Boundaries Signed

UNMIK/PR/304

Kosovo's 30 municipalities have been officially identified by UNMIK Regulation 2000/43 "On the Numbers, Names and Boundaries of Municipalities."

The regulation, which entered into force on 27 July 2000, stipulates that the area of each municipality and its boundaries shall be delineated by its component cadastral zones.

Designed to clarify the identity of municipalities prior to the holding of municipal elections this fall, regulation 2000/34 supersedes any provision in the applicable law which is inconsistent with it.

Official communications shall not contain any names for a municipality other than those in the regulation's Schedule A (see next page), except that in those municipalities where ethnic or linguistic communities other than Serbian or Albanian form a substantial part of the population, the names of the municipalities shall also be given in the languages of those communities.

Lists of the cadastral zones forming each municipality (Schedule B) are available at the UNMIK Press Office.
