SRSG Michael Steiner says UNSC 1244 does not foresee mono-ethnic institutions in Kosovo

PRISTINA – Reacting to the formation of an assembly of Serbian municipalities, SRSG Michael Steiner today said that the “UNSCR 1244 and the Constitutional Framework do not foresee institutions based on mono-ethnicity.”

The SRSG added that “this has no legal relevance for Kosovo”.

United Nations Mission in Kosovo

The United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) was established by the Security Council in its resolution 1244 (1999). In accordance with its mandate, the Mission helps to ensure conditions for a peaceful life for all inhabitants of Kosovo.
