SRSG visits Family Health Center in Pristina

PRISTINA – SRSG Michael Steiner today visited the Family Health Center in Pristina and talked to the workers there. Mr. Steiner was impressed by the professionalism of the medical personnel and said, “The Health House shows that despite all the difficulties, Kosovo is on its way.”

SRSG Michael Steiner who went around the Health House saw a two-month-old child being vaccinated. He thanked the Health House staff for their dedication.

Family medicine is new in Kosovo. It is the basis of primary health care. It was introduced three years ago. It has led to a large reduction of diseases such as polio and hepatitis. So far 300 doctors have been trained in family medicine in Kosovo.

In a meeting, the Health House workers talked to the SRSG about their difficulties, especially the low salaries in the health sector. The SRSG said he understood their complaints.
