UNMIK/PR/950

PRISTINA – PDSRSG Charles Brayshaw today visited the Municipality of Gjakova/Djakovica where he met with the Deputy Presidents, the CEO and Party leaders, before he went to talk to representatives of the NGO “Cries of Women”. After a lunch with members of the civil society he visited the Roma quarter Kolonia.

In the meeting with political leaders Mr Brayshaw welcomed the progress towards good governance so far. “It is important to see such progress, because successful transfer remains a key test for success”, he stated. The PDSRSG was further informed about the once economic importance of Gjakova/Djakovica for Kosovo’s wealth and he pointed out that privatisation is the only road to a prosperous future.

Charles Brayshaw then listened to the concerns of the representatives of “Cries of Women” who expressed their grievance about the unknown fate of their loved ones. “4.000 from all communities are still missing in Kosovo, this is a terrible fact”, he assured them, “But I promise you that we will do everything to resolve their fate”.

At the Roma quarter Kolonia, the PDSRSG met representatives of the community and was welcomed by cultural presentations of the schoolchildren, whom he applauded. Before returning he paid a visit to a family in the quarter and informed himself about their living conditions.
