DSRSG Returns to German Foreign Service

PRISTINA – The Head of Pillar IV of UNMIK, Deputy SRSG Nikolaus Graf Lambsdorff, will return to the German Foreign Service. At the request of the German Foreign Office, Mr. Lambsdorff will take on a new assignment in Berlin.

SRSG Søren Jessen-Petersen has asked Mr. Lambsdorff to extend his stay until the end of January 2005 beyond the end of his current contract, which expires on
31 December 2004. Mr. Lambsdorff who had been seconded by the German Foreign Office has worked in Kosovo during the past three years, first as Senior Advisor to former SRSG Steiner, then as Head of EU Pillar IV of UNMIK.

The SRSG expressed his gratitude to Mr. Lambsdorff for three years of dedicated service to UNMIK and to Kosovo. “As Head of the EU-led Pillar IV of UNMIK, Mr. Lambsdorff has been instrumental in efforts to improve the economy and in moving Kosovo closer to the European Union”, the SRSG stated.
