Pristina – Lipjan/Lipljan Municipality will soon begin construction of a new primary school following a pledge made by SRSG Søren Jessen-Petersen during a visit to a makeshift school last month.
In October, the SRSG and COMKFOR Yves de Kermabon visited the private house which has served as a school for Kosovo Serb pupils for the past five years. They expressed concern for what they saw and heard and the SRSG pledged support for the construction of a primary school.
The construction of the school is now one of the priority projects of the municipality. Funding has been secured and UNMIK staff are working closely with the municipality to hold the groundbreaking before the end of the year.
The DSRSG for Civil Administration, Francesco Bastagli, and the Regional Representative for Prishtine/Pristina, Patricia Waring, yesterday met municipal officials and visited the site where construction will soon begin. The DSRSG expressed appreciation to the Municipal Assembly President and the Municipal Assembly of Lipjan/Lipljan and urged them to continue their engagement with all communities.
