UNMIK/PR/222
The Interim Administrative Council was today briefed by the co-heads of the Department of Health and Social Welfare, Mr. Pleurat Sejdiu and Dr. Hannu Vuori, on the outbreak of tularemia and a general update on the functioning of the department. The co-heads discussed the measures being taken by the department to deal with the problem of tularemia and to inform the public on the preventive actions and methods to be taken to avoid contamination.
The IAC also had an extensive discussion on the situation in the Pristina region, including the work and composition of the Pristina Municipal Board, garbage collection and illegal construction in the city. This followed a detailed briefing by Mr. Enrique Aguilar, Regional Administrator for Pristina, on the situation in the region.
The IAC members also agreed on a statement in which they “distanced themselves” from the statement on Kosovo made by Mr. J. Dienstbier, Special Rapporteur for Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, to the UN Commission on Human Rights on 29 March as well as a recent study of the International Crisis Group.
In that statement, the IAC also refuted a recent article in the German magazine ‘Der Spiegel’ on the administrative and political situation and on individual political organizations in Kosovo stating that it did not accurately describe the reality on the ground. The IAC also noted the UNMIK Police’s denial of the claim that they were conducting criminal investigations against top-level Kosovar political leaders.
