Statement by the IAC Condemning Violence in Mitrovica

  • The IAC condemns in the strongest possible terms the violent incidents that occurred in Mitrovica on 7 March, which resulted in several wounded among Serb and Albanian communities and KFOR troops.
  • We are alarmed about attacks on peacekeepers by people they have been sent to protect.
  • We urge all communities in Mitrovica to refrain from violence and to cooperate with the representatives of the international community towards ensuring respect for the rights and security of all inhabitants of Mitrovica.
  • We underscore that problems can only be resolved through peaceful dialogue.

 

United Nations Mission in Kosovo

The United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) was established by the Security Council in its resolution 1244 (1999). In accordance with its mandate, the Mission helps to ensure conditions for a peaceful life for all inhabitants of Kosovo.
