Interim Administrative Council Names Three Co-heads

UNMIK/PR/173

PRISTINA--The Interim Administrative Council today named co-heads for the departments of Culture, Youth, Sport and Democratic Governance & Civil Society Support. The IAC also divided the former department of Youth and Sport into two new entities.

The IAC appointed Ms. Vjosa Dobruna, a political independent and human rights activist, to co-head the department of Democratic Governance. Mrs. Edi Shukriu, head of the LDK Women's League, was named co-head of the department of Culture. The acting president of the Pristina University students union, Mr. Driton Lajci, will co-head the department of Youth. The LBD was asked to propose a candidate for the Department of Sport.

Still to be appointed are co-heads for the departments of Transport & Infrastructure, Environment, Agriculture and Labour & Employment -- all of whom will come from minority communities.

The IAC also reviewed draft regulations on setting up the departments of Public Services and Justice, which are the next to become officially established. Three regulations involving elections preparations were also discussed.

In other business, the IAC discussed a draft of the joint strategy for Mitrovica, the key aims of which are to insulate the area from people who pose a threat to public order; facilitate two-way returns; ensure the security of the Serb community and eliminate the "green line" as a rallying point for extremists.

The IAC was briefed on the recent fire which consumed the Boro and Ramiz sports center by UNMIK fire chief Robert Triozzi.
