PRISTINA – UNMIK will provide financial support to the families of the students who died in last week’s tragic bus accident in Albania, in order to help them cope with their immediate expenses. SRSG Søren Jessen-Petersen would also like to once again express his heartfelt condolences to the families at this very painful time.
UNMIK will also cover the costs of transporting the injured students back to Kosovo, as well as any extraordinary medical expenses resulting from the accident.
In addition, the SRSG has decided to support refurbishing and equipping the library of the Abdyl Frashëri secondary school in Malishevë/Mališevo, which will be dedicated to the memory of the students who died. It is hoped that this improved facility may help a new generation of students in Malishevë/Mališevo to improve their education and opportunities in life.
The Municipality of Malishevë/Mališevo was informed today of this decision by the SRSG, who once again thanked the local authorities for their quick response in the face of this tragedy.
