PRISTINA – SRSG Søren Jessen-Petersen expressed his deepest sorrow upon hearing of the tragic bus accident this afternoon that left many children from Kosovo dead and injured earlier this afternoon in Albania.

“I was very saddened to learn of this tragedy and wish to express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Our thoughts are with the families, the people and the Government of Kosovo at this very difficult moment”, said the SRSG this afternoon in Geneva where he is attending a UN conference. He is going to cut short his trip to lend his personal support.

PDSRSG Larry Rossin, together with the Prime Minister Bajram Rexhepi, is flying to Albania tonight to visit those injured and convey UNMIK's sympathy. "We are ready to provide whatever assistance is needed," he said before his departure.

More than 300 children from the Avdyl Frasheri Secondary School in Malishevo were returning from a school trip in Albania when a bus carrying 70 of them had an accident in Fushë Arrëz near Kukës in Albania.
