UNMIK/PR/1100
PRISTINA – In view of a media report alleging that UNMIK is blocking the arrest of corrupt officials, UNMIK wishes to clarify the following:
UNMIK has long stated that it has zero tolerance for corruption. To this end, an Investigative Task Force comprising the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services, the European Anti-Fraud Office and the Financial Investigation Unit, was formed in November last year.
The ITF can investigate anyone, including people who work in the international administration. As stated in the past, investigations are ongoing into allegations of corruption. However, such investigations are complicated and take time.
Any charges brought must be based on evidence. In no way is UNMIK blocking prosecution of anyone. UNMIK will use all the tools necessary to conduct investigations.
