UNMIK/PR/1098

PRISTINA – SRSG Harri Holkeri, along with other senior UNMIK officials today met Prime Minister Bajram Rexhepi and other members of his cabinet.

This meeting was part of the regular contact and cooperation between UNMIK and the PISG.

The main issues of discussion at the meeting were the standards, the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue, KEK and funding for the Kosovo Protection Corps.

On the standards, the SRSG described the current status of work on the Standards Implementation Plan, which is being jointly prepared by UNMIK and the government. He urged that rapid efforts should be made to finish the plan as soon as possible. “There is no time to lose in its preparations,” Mr. Holkeri said, emphasising the need for active participation in the five working groups at the appropriate level.

On the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue, SRSG Harri Holkeri said that there should be no delay. The dialogue being one of the Standards, the government must be thoroughly prepared “which would allow us to proceed with concrete steps in due course,” he said.
On KEK, the meeting discussed the issue of the huge unpaid bills owed to KEK by companies and individuals in Kosovo.

After the meeting, SRSG Holkeri then held the first weekly one to one meeting of the year with Prime Minister Rexhepi.
