PRISTINA - SRSG Harri Holkeri today personally informed President Ibrahim Rugova, Prime Minister Bajram Rexhepi and other political leaders about the arrest early today of a number of Kosovo Protection Corps (KPC) members. The arrests were made in connection with serious crimes, including murder of Kosovo Albanians.
In connection with these arrests, SRSG Holkeri states that this action is taken due to the crimes committed by individuals and does not reflect on organizations they belong to now or belonged to in the past. It in no way constitutes an indictment of the KPC.
He reiterates that he holds the KPC in high regard, these arrests should not be seen as an attempt to diminish the standing of those who serve in it and do not reflect on the achievements of the KPC.
SRSG Holkeri assures that those arrested will be treated in a fair and just manner, according to due legal process.
