Regulation on long-term allocation of municipal land promulgated

UNMIK/PR/1321

PRISTINA – SRSG Søren Jessen-Petersen today promulgated UNMIK Regulation 2005/13 on the Allocation of Socially-Owned Immovable Property Managed by Municipalities in Kosovo.

The Regulation will enable UNMIK to grant Municipalities authorisation to make long-term allocations of municipal land for commercial ventures for the purposes of development.

“This has been very important for investors, for the security of the investments, that they had a long-term guarantee. Some prospective investors who are prepared to move in, tomorrow even, had been keen on 99 years. We can move forward and I consider that very good news”, said the SRSG after his weekly meeting with the Prime Minister this morning.

The Regulation also provides a clear and transparent regime which will ensure that such long-term allocations are based on an open, fair and transparent procedure in accordance with the applicable law.
