SRSG meets Greek Prime Minister

PRISTINA – SRSG Søren Jessen-Petersen this afternoon met Prime Minister Konstantinos Karamanlis of Greece who paid a one-day visit to Kosovo. The SRSG praised Greece’s consistent support of Standards in Kosovo and briefed the Prime Minister on the latest developments in Kosovo and on the next steps.

The SRSG shared with Prime Minister Karamanlis his impression that there has been encouraging progress on Standards implementation. “We are moving forward but there is still a lot of work ahead of us to make sure that we get into a positive comprehensive review”, said the SRSG. They also exchanged views on the dialogue both in Kosovo and between Pristina and Belgrade.

Prime Minister Karamanlis for his part said that Greece is ready to contribute constructively to the resolution of the Kosovo issue, adding that there is very good co-operation between the Greek government and UNMIK. The Prime Minister praised the SRSG for “doing a very good job in a very delicate matter”, adding that Greece is willing to continue to contribute to his work.
