Mortal remains transferred from Serbia proper to Kosovo today

UNMIK/PR/1367

PRISTINA - The Office on Missing Persons and Forensics (OMPF), in cooperation with the UNMIK Police Missing Persons Unit (MPU) and the Serbian authorities, transferred 64 mortal remains from Serbia proper to Kosovo today.

The mortal remains relate to bodies exhumed from Batajnica and identified by DNA.

The transfer between the Serbian authorities and the OMPF/MPU took place at Gate Three (Merdare crossing point) at the OMPF transfer facility. After verification procedures were completed, the remains were transported to the Rahovec/Orahovac mortuary where forensic inspections will now be conducted.

Family members are always the first to be informed about the identification of their loved ones. Accordingly, once the forensic inspections are complete, teams consisting of OMPF outreach and MPU identification officers will visit the families affected by these repatriations. The mortal remains will then be ready for release to the families.
