PDSRSG Rossin visits Skopje, discusses bilateral issues

UNMIK/PR/1356

PRISTINA – Principal Deputy SRSG Larry Rossin today visited Skopje where he met with President Branko Crvenkovski, Prime Minister Vlado Buchkovski and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hasanovic.

Addressing the media in Skopje after the meetings, the PDSRSG said, “My purpose in coming here was to talk about issues for developing the relationship, and to ensure that if we have difficulties we are working together to resolve them to our mutual benefit.”

Mr. Rossin explained the intent and content of UNMIK Regulation No. 2005/16 on the movement of persons into and out of Kosovo. He said that the Regulation provides a legal regime, hitherto lacking, to govern movements of persons in and out of Kosovo. Implementing procedures will be developed between now and 1 July 2005 when the regulation comes into force.

The PDSRSG stressed, as he has done before, that this regulation does not establish a visa regime and will involve no fees. He welcomed the suggestions and concerns raised during his visit and assured the Macedonian authorities that UNMIK will consult with them and all other interested parties as it formulates the implementing procedures for the Regulation.

In his meetings in Skopje today, PDSRSG Rossin also discussed the progress on the Free Trade Agreement negotiations. He welcomed the fruitful negotiations that had taken place on the establishment of passenger train services between Pristina and Skopje.
