PDSRSG calls on Kosovo's Unity Team to better inform municipalities

UNMIK/PR/1589

PRISTINA – During a visit to Viti/Vitina today, PDSRSG Steven Schook called on the leaders of Kosovo’s key institutions and political parties to better inform municipalities and the public about the status process.

Following a meeting with municipal officials, the PDSRSG said the members of Kosovo’s Unity Team need to “get down to the municipalities in order to inform and educate everyone on what is going on with the technical agreement” being discussed in the status talks held in Vienna.

He stressed that communication with municipalities and the public needs to increase, particularly about key technical issues being discussed in the UNOSEK-led talks such as decentralization, protection of cultural heritage and minority rights.

While UNMIK will continue to do its part, the PDSRSG said he is counting on the Unity Team to take the lead in addressing the public at the local level. It is his assessment that this is absolutely critical.
