PRISTINA - The Office on Missing Persons and Forensics (OMPF) today received 49 sets of mortal remains from Serbian authorities. The remains relate to 45 new individuals who have been missing from different parts of Kosovo.
The mortal remains returned today relate to bodies exhumed earlier from Batajnica which have previously been identified by DNA. This is the 18th transfer of mortal remains from Serbia proper to Kosovo. 728 sets of remains have been transferred so far.
The transfer between the Serbian authorities and the OMPF took place at Gate Three (Merdare crossing point) at the OMPF transfer facility. After verification procedures were completed, the remains were transported to the Rahovec/Orahovac mortuary. Here, forensic inspections to confirm identity and determine the cause of death will begin tomorrow.
Once the identity is confirmed, the concerned families will be informed for release of the remains and reburial ceremony.
