UNMIK/PR/362
PRISTINA— Business registration in Kosovo is nearing completion, with almost 26,000 organisations complying. That is being described as very succesful, with targets being hit.
But UNMIK officials running the registration programme say registering is not enough. Kosovo’s businessmen must also display the certificate issued by each municipality after registering, in their premises. They are urging those who have not collected their certificates to do so.
And the registration office wants the estimated 2,000 businesses that have not registered to come forward.
Random checks will be launched across Kosovo in the next few weeks.
Those who either are not displaying their certificate of registration or those who have not registered will be penalised. The sanctions range from fines through to the closure of a business. Those who have not registered will be barred from competing for tenders.
Each business which has been registered receives a unique identity number. That will be used to assist in administration from purchase and supply through to customs.
Registration is vital for the future of Kosovo’s economy and will build up the Kosovo budget. It also assists in economic planning because it will show the type and size of business operating in the region. This in turn means programmes of assistance can be tailored for specific needs.
