PRISTINA – SRSG Harri Holkeri today signed an Executive Decision setting up a Crisis Management Review Body to review UNMIK’s response to the disturbances of 17-18 March.

The body, to be chaired by an international judge or jurist, will include qualified international crisis management experts as members, to be appointed by the SRSG.

It will evaluate and assess the response of UNMIK to the crisis, and make recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of security and protection mechanisms and procedures for future crises.

The group will report to SRSG Harri Holkeri within 30 days of the appointment of its members.

The body will focus on identifying actions and measures to establish security and restore public order, including mobilization of the police to control the situation and respond to the challenges, actions to protect minority communities and cultural or religious sites, coordination and communication between relevant agencies responsible for security and public order, and measures to protect UNMIK and other international personnel and UN premises and assets.

The work of the Crisis Management Review Body will be without prejudice to ongoing criminal investigations and judicial proceedings.
