PRISTINA – Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Police and Justice (DSRSG) Jean Dussourd, together with the Minister of Justice of the Kosovo Government Jonuz Salihaj, today witnessed the first court day which has been held in the village of Velika Hoca/Hoca e Madhe. The aim of this outreach activity is to reinforce the confidence of the local communities in the judiciary.
The DSRSG and the Minister met with staff of the local Court Liaison Office and the Municipal Court of Rahovec/Orahovac.
“We are determined to recruit more judges and prosecutors from all communities. Today the staff of the Municipal Court came here to enhance their relationship with the citizens. We will continue similar activities throughout Kosovo,” said Mr. Dussourd.
The visit of the DSRSG and the Minister to Velika Hoca/Hoca e Madhe highlights the firm commitment of UNMIK and the Ministry of Justice in securing guarantees for local communities in the field of justice. These guarantees will be implemented by the forthcoming regulation on the Regulatory Framework of the Justice System in Kosovo and also will include measures to increase the number of judges and prosecutors coming from under-represented communities. Based on this regulation, new Court Liaison Offices are expected to be opened in areas where under-represented communities live.
