On Thursday Deputy to the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG) for Police and Justice, Mr. Jean Dussourd, together with Fatmir Rexhepi Minister of Internal Affairs of the Kosovo Goverment visited a recently opened police sub-station in the village of Bernice e Poshtme/Donja Brnjica located in Prishtinë/Priština Municipality. The DSRSG and the Minister used this occasion to meet with the newly selected members of the Local Public Safety Committee (LPSC) to discuss security issues.
“In full agreement with the government and the representative of the communities we have decided to open these local safety councils and police sub-stations in several places around Kosovo. Here we have representatives from the Albanian and the Serbian community working together; it carries a strong message,” - the DSRSG said.
“We do not want to impose any solution, but we support dialogue and through that we already have concrete results in reinforcing the confidence of the communities,” – the DSRSG added.
The visit to Bernice e Poshtme/Donja Brnjica highlighted the unyielding commitment of UNMIK and the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the implementation of security guarantees towards local communities, and it provided support for the LPSC and the Police Sub-station.
The visit was an excellent opportunity to reinforce the message of peaceful co-existence and mutual cooperation between Kosovo Serb and Albanian communities in the area of public safety. The LPSC and the Police Sub-station of Bernice e Poshtme/Donja Brnjica cover an area of 4 mixed villages in Pristina’s Rural North.
