IAC Discusses the Legal Framework, Discussions to Continue Tomorrow

UNMIK/PR/575

PRISTINA – The Interim Administration Council (IAC) met today in an extraordinary session to discuss the Legal Framework for Provisional Self-Government.

It was a frank and workmanlike discussion with all involved showing a willingness to address the remaining problems in a constructive manner. Whilst there was no breakthrough on the remaining points at issue, all understood the need to come to an agreement as soon as possible.

The meeting was attended by the four Kosovar members of IAC. The three Kosovo Albanian leaders were accompanied by their representatives from the Joint Working Group on the Legal Framework.

In order to maintain the momentum of this afternoon’s meeting, it was agreed that discussions at the political advisor level would continue at 1700 hrs this evening to try and move the process further. Another extraordinary meeting of IAC would be held tomorrow at 1600hrs to review progress.

Responding to a journalist’s question, after the meeting, on the unresolved issues in the Legal Framework, SRSG Hans Haekkerup said that they “had certainly not agreed yet but the process was promising”. He said he hoped that an agreement would be reached by the end of the week.
