UNMIK/PR/215

PRISTINA -- The Kosovo Power Company, the Batllava Water Company and UNMIK formally agreed on Tuesday to intensify their cooperation in order to ensure stable water supply for Pristina Region.

In an Operational Arrangement, signed by the Kosovo Power Company, the Batllava Water Company and by UNMIK Civil Administration, the parties agreed that the Kosovo Power Company shall give highest priority to the power supply to the Batllava pumping station and the Sajkovic water treatment plant. The Batllava lake is the source of more than two thirds of the water supply to the Pristina Region.

The pumping stations in Kuzmin and Badovac, which provide the remaining one third of the water to Pristina Region, shall also be supplied with electricity on a priority basis.

The parties further agreed on measures to improve the flow of information between the power company, the water company and UNMIK regarding upcoming power cuts and repairs of the electrical power supply system in water-generating facilities. These measures also include the provision of information on the water situation to the public.

In order to ensure improved communication and a more reliable and continuous water supply, the water emergency taskforce of UN Civil Administration has established a liaison office at the Batllava water.
