Today the Board of Directors of the Kosovo Trust Agency (KTA) held its first and inaugural meeting. The Board is the supreme body of the KTA.
With this meeting the KTA has now become operational. The KTA is in charge of administering all socially-owned and publicly-owned enterprises in Kosovo, and eventually launching the privatization program for socially-owned enterprises.
The meeting was opened by the SRSG Michael Steiner, who told the Board “with the KTA concept we have created a solution that will satisfy the most pressing needs of the private businessmen we want to attract to Kosovar enterprises. They will receive the necessary clarity and the legal protection of new ownership titles.
“Moreover, we have received the support of the international community that is standing behind us.
He said that with the meeting of the KTA board, “privatisation of the socially owned enterprises and further restructuring of the publicly owned enterprises is finally becoming a practical matter. Both are needed in order to transform Kosovo into a functioning and competitive market economy, that does not remain dependent on donor funds and remittances from abroad.”
The SRSG then reminded the board that “your task will be aggravated by the fact that many of your decisions will take a toll now while the benefits will accrue only in the future.”
The Directors of the Board of KTA are: Andy Bearpark, Chairman; Ali Jakupi, Vice Chairman; Ali Sadriu, Goran Bogandovic, Bahri Shabani, Tom Koenigs, Juergen Voss and Ernst Tschoepke.
The Board appointed Ahmet Shala and Lars Jensen as Deputy Managing Directors who will jointly be responsible for the management of the KTA, until a Managing Director is appointed.
The Board also adopted the Agency’s temporary charter and temporary By-laws and approved its official logo.
