UNMIK/PR/1207
Following recent allegations appearing in the media about Fructal fruit juices, the UNMIK Directorate of Rural Affairs issues the following statement:
Products of the company Fructal d.d. of Slovenia have been imported into Kosovo since 2000. All imported products are controlled at the border entry points into Kosovo and samples are regularly taken for laboratory analysis on a routine basis by the UNMIK Directorate of Rural Affairs and the Kosovo Ministry of Agriculture.
All samples tested to date have fully conformed to European Union food safety standards.
In July 2004, multiple samples of Fructal nectar juices including Fructal “Blueberry nectar” have been tested in numerous laboratories including the Croatian Institute of Public health, the Croatian Laboratory for Radioactivity Controls, the Sanitary and Health Inspectorate of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, the Italian Neotron laboratory for food safety, the Kosovo Agricultural Institute and the Slovenian Institute of Occupational Safety. All tests have shown the products to be well within EU regulated food safety standards and completely safe for human consumption. As a further guarantee, samples taken in Kosovo are currently being tested at the Swiss Quality Testing Services laboratory in Dieticon, Switzerland.
Fructal products are exported from Slovenia to 18 countries, including European member states, the U.S. and Canada.
