PRISTINA – On the eve of Christmas, I extend my own and UNMIK’s happy holiday greetings to all the people of Kosovo.
As we join family and friends in sharing blessings and joy, this is a time for spiritual reflection on what has been accomplished and on work that lies ahead. There have been many challenges for all of us during the last year. Working in partnership with UNMIK, KFOR and the international community, Kosovo has passed through testing times. During the Status process that has just begun, Kosovo’s innate strength will be called upon again as you are asked to rededicate yourselves to the construction of a stable, democratic society for all the people and communities of Kosovo.
As Kosovo reflects on a momentous 2005, this is also the time to renew your commitment to progress in 2006. In the Christmas spirit of love and friendship, let us combine our energies for a peaceful and prosperous Kosovo. I and all my colleagues at UNMIK warmly wish you all a happy Christmas season.
