PRISTINA – Today Mr Charles Brayshaw, Principal Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General, officiated at a swearing-in ceremony held at the UNMIK HQ in Pristina, where two Court Presidents and six other Kosovo Judges took the oath of office.
Among those sworn in are four serving judges, including Judge Hevzi Murseli from the Municipal Court in Kamenice/Kamenica who was appointed President of the same court. Three other serving judges from Minor Offences Courts were promoted to Municipal Courts.
Mr Sabit Beqiri, who joined the judicial service today, was appointed President of the Municipal Court in Vushtrii/Vucitrn. Among the four new judges sworn in, one is of Kosovo Serbian ethnicity.
These judges were appointed in accordance with the provisions of the Constitutional Framework, under which the SRSG appoints judges from lists of candidates recommended by the Kosovo Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (KJPC) and endorsed by the Assembly of Kosovo.
The new appointments bring the total number of Kosovo judges to 323 including 290 Kosovo Albanians, 16 Kosovo Serbs and 17 from other ethnic groups.
