PRISTINA – UNMIK Police today arrested four Kosovo Albanian males in a complex arrest and search operation
The four men are suspected of having committed serious crimes against other Kosovo Albanians in June 1999 after the war.
The crimes occurred in various areas of Kosovo and involved unlawful detention and serious assault. All victims were Kovoso Albanians and most of the victims remain missing.
UNMIK Police officers involved in the operation arrested a fifth person when evidence of illegal weapons was discovered. That person is not wanted in connection with the offences allegedly committed by the other four suspects.
The four targeted suspects were arrested subsequent to an official request from an international public prosecutor and after a comprehensive police investigation.
The men were taken into custody during an extensive operation conducted this morning.
The upcoming investigation to confirm the charges will be undertaken by an experienced international investigating judge.
Until the allegations are confirmed, UNMIK will not release the names or affiliations of the suspects.
UNMIK Police investigators are continuing to seize and examine evidence so no further information about the case can be released at this time.
UNMIK remains committed to establishing the rule of law in Kosovo and today’s operation demonstrates that no one is above the law.
