Regulation on the prohibition of trials in absentia for serious violations of international humanitarian law

Pristina-- SRSG Bernard Kouchner signed before he left on Saturday, a regulation on the prohibition of trials in absentia for serious violations of international humanitarian law.

Regulation 2001/1 states that “no person may be tried in absentia for serious violations of international humanitarian law, as defined in Chapter XVI of the applicable Yugoslav Criminal Code or the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court” that was issued in July 1998.

United Nations Mission in Kosovo

The United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) was established by the Security Council in its resolution 1244 (1999). In accordance with its mandate, the Mission helps to ensure conditions for a peaceful life for all inhabitants of Kosovo.
