BREZOVICA: An interethnic ski coaching camp for girls from all over Kosovo is beginning today at the Brezovica Ski Centre. The 10-day camp has been organized by the Ski Federation of Kosovo in collaboration with the Transitional Department of Culture, Youth, Sports and Non-resident Affairs. Twenty girls, 15 Albanian and five Serbian, will participate in the camp.
This is the second major initiative of Department of Sports in bringing communities together through sports. Last year the basketball team of Strpce/Shterpce was admitted to the Kosovo basketball league by the Basketball Federation of Kosovo. Since then the Strpce/Shterpce team has been playing in the second division league. The Department Sports hopes that this ski camp will pave the way for more such multi-ethnic sports events in Kosovo
Through this camp, in which the Albanian and Serbian participants will spend 10 days together in Brezovica, the Department of Sports aims not only to give an opportunity to the young girls to improve their skills in skiing but also to provide forum for them to live with, interact and understand their teammates from the other communities. Such events should lead to a long-term understanding and cooperation between the Ski Federation of Kosovo and the Ski Club of Brezovica.
Though the two initiatives cover two different sports(basketball and skiing), they both the initiatives relate to the Strpce/Shterpce municipality. The US KFOR-led security forces are supporting both.
