SRSG and PM discuss further transfer in the field of economy

UNMIK/PR/1292

PRISTINA – SRSG Søren Jessen-Petersen today met with Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj to discuss further transfer in the field of economy. The SRSG agreed to provide soon a proposal with a detailed outline of areas where UNMIK will hand over more competences to the PISG.

At the press conference following the meeting, SRSG Jessen-Petersen announced that the chairmanship of the Economic and Fiscal Council will now be held by the Prime Minister, instead of UNMIK. He also said that the composition of other bodies will be changed in the future, such as the board of directors of the Banking and Payments Authority of Kosovo.

“We will change the composition over time in such a way that we ‘Kosovarise’ the economic institutions. By ‘Kosovarisation,’ I mean having Kosovars in the majority and the internationals in the minority,” the SRSG said.

The SRSG also announced that the management of socially-owned forest land will be transferred to the government, noting that socially-owned forest covers a quarter of the surface of Kosovo and is of substantial economic importance.

The SRSG and the Prime Minister also discussed the energy situation in Kosovo and the implementation of standards. Both stressed that progress on the Standards remains Kosovo’s highest priority.
