SRSG calls for a more significant role for women in Kosovo political life

UNMIK/PR/1502

PRISTINA – The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Kosovo (SRSG) Søren Jessen-Petersen today continued his regular meetings with Kosovo women leaders at UNMIK Headquarters.

The SRSG invited Kosovo women leaders to advocate with local decision-makers and leaders of Kosovo political parties to change the mind set that has been prevalent and excluded women from the political arena and the political talks on the future status of Kosovo.

“Women should play a more significant role in the political life in Kosovo. They have a lot to bring to the table, including to the negotiating one. Their views should be taken into account by those who are discussing the future of Kosovo in Vienna,” said the SRSG.

The SRSG appealed to the Kosovo women leaders to enhance reconciliation among all Kosovo communities.
