PRISTINA –Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Kosovo (SRSG) Joachim Ruecker today condemned the violent attacks by Kosovo Serb fringe groups on the boundary crossings at gates 1 and 31 in northern Mitrovica which resulted in the destruction of property.
“Any violence is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. I have asked the UNMIK Police Commissioner and COMKFOR to restore order at these boundary crossings,” Mr. Ruecker said. “The attacks are clearly in violation of UNMIK’s mandate.”
“I expect all Kosovo citizens to exercise calm and respect UNMIK and KFOR, which will continue to diligently ensure a safe and secure environment throughout Kosovo.”
COMKFOR and the SRSG decided that gates 1 and 31 will be closed for 24 hours.
