PRISTINA – The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Kosovo (SRSG) Søren Jessen-Petersen today issued the following statement on the election of Mr. Kole Berisha as the new President of the Assembly of Kosovo:
“I congratulate Mr. Kole Berisha on his election as the President of the Assembly of Kosovo. I trust that under his stewardship, the Kosovo Assembly will continue to strengthen its legislative capacity and serve as a beacon for democracy in Kosovo. Effective oversight of the people’s representatives over the Government – its policies, performance and spending – is an essential pre-requisite for democratic governance. Under its new conductor, I hope the democratic orchestra will generate the necessary harmonious impulses across Kosovo’s political spectrum through effective issue-based debates on the floor of the Assembly.
I extend my best wishes to Assembly President Kole Berisha and look forward to working closely with him.”
