UNMIK/PR/1501
PRISTINA – The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Kosovo (SRSG) Søren Jessen-Petersen met today Kosovo Protection Corps Commander Lt.-Gen. Agim Ceku and Deputy Commander Maj.-Gen. Sylejman Selimi at UNMIK Headquarters.
They discussed the political situation in the light of the resignation of Prime Minister Bajram Kosumi yesterday and the mention of Lt.-Gen. Agim Ceku as a possible candidate for the post of Prime Minister.
The SRSG said: “I invited Lt.-Gen. Ceku to discuss the recent political developments in Kosovo. I am aware, of course, that he is being proposed for the post of Prime Minister. It is the responsibility of the Kosovo Assembly to choose the new Prime Minister. Meanwhile, I wanted to discuss with Lt.-Gen. Ceku the possible implications his eventual election to the post would have for the Kosovo Protection Corps. We had a good and useful discussion.”
