SRSG Harri Holkeri Leads Multi-ethnic Delegation to Skopje

PRISTINA – SRSG Harri Holkeri today led a multi-ethnic delegation from Kosovo which attended the funeral of the President of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Boris Trajkovski in Skopje today. The delegation included President Ibrahim Rugova, Prime Minister Bajram Rexhepi and Coalition Povratak leader Dragisa Krstovic.

Prior to the funeral, the SRSG met with the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Razov. He also briefly spoke to the French Minister for Cooperation and Francophony, Pierre-Andre Wiltzer.

After the funeral, Mr. Holkeri had separate meetings with the President of the European Commission Romano Prodi, German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer and EU Special Representative to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Soren Jessen-Petersen.

On Thursday evening, Mr. Holkeri met with the President of Albania Alfred Moisiu and the former Finnish President Martti Ahtissari.

In his meetings, Mr. Holkeri briefed the leaders on the latest developments in Kosovo, in particular the Pristina-Belgrade direct dialogue, Standards implementation plan and the privatization process. He expressed optimism that the meeting of the first working group in Pristina yesterday will mark the start of a new chapter in relations between Pristina and Belgrade. He also informed them that he had given instructions to carry on with the privatization process.

The leaders expressed support of their governments and organisations to UNMIK’s policies.
