SRSG Harri Holkeri Signs Executive Decision on Hade Village

UNMIK/PR/1155

PRISTINA – SRSG Harri Holkeri has signed an Executive Decision today, directing the Provisional Institutions of Self-Government (PISG) to immediately implement an evacuation plan for the residents of Hade village in Obilic.

Mr. Holkeri directed UNMIK Police and KFOR with the support of the Kosovo Protection Corps to provide all necessary assistance for the evacuation.

The Obilic municipality in coordination with the Division of Emergency Management of the Ministry of Public Services has prepared an evacuation plan, which foresees the movement of 300 people from the area of risk. The PISG has set aside a 4 million euro fund in the budget to respond to the emergency.

This decision became necessary after a technical evaluation of the risk of landslides in the area revealed an immediate threat to the lives of Hade’s residents. The SRSG has been concerned that concrete action has yet to be taken by the PISG for the evacuation of the Hade village residents.

The PISG is responsible for relocating the people of Hade village. To that end, Mr. Holkeri has directed the PISG, through the Office of the Prime Minister, to submit a report on the action taken to implement the evacuation plan by 2 April 2004 and provide regular subsequent updates.
