PRISTINA - On behalf of UNMIK, SRSG Harri Holkeri extends his warmest Christmas wishes to Orthodox Christians in Kosovo.
Christmas celebrates the birth of new hope in the world and the SRSG invites Orthodox Christians to embrace the hopes offered in the coming months.
UNMIK is well aware that Orthodox Christians continue to live in unacceptable conditions – as do many other members of Kosovo society. But we have now achieved an unprecedented consensus that for Kosovo to be a comfortable home for most of its people, it must become a secure and dignified home for all of its people.
SRSG Harri Holkeri commends the courage and fortitude shown by many Orthodox Christians over the recent difficult years and urges them to honour the spirit of Christmas by recognizing the new hopes taking root even as snow blankets Kosovo. For that hope to grow and flourish requires nurturing by all of Kosovo’s people, including its Orthodox Christians.
