SRSG Hans Haekkerup, PDSRSG Gary Matthews and Deputy COMKFOR General Georgeos Ledeveze today met with representatives of the Kosovo Serb community of Mitrovica, along with Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Nebojsa Covic at Merdare on how to further implement the declaration on Mitrovica of 1 February 2001.
Steps under consideration include those that would increase the freedom of movement between the two sides of the divided city.
The participants agreed to proceed forward along a step-by-step basis, by means of working groups on the regional level.
After his trip to New York later this week to address the United Nations Security Council, Mr. Haekkerup will meet again with the Serb representatives.
Later today, Mr. Haekkerup, Mr. Matthews and General Ledeveze met with Kosovo Albanian leaders Hashim Thaci, Ramush Haradinaj and Kole Berisha to brief them on the Mitrovica discussions as well as on progress made by the Legal Framework Working Group.
Tomorrow, (13 March), Mr. Matthews will meet with representatives of the Kosovo Albanian community in southern Mitrovica as part of the continuing dialogue with the people of Mitrovica on improving conditions in the area.
